Generic Name: Estradiol transdermal

Alora is a once-monthly birth control patch that delivers the hormone estradiol transdermally.

The FDA has advised that Alora should not be used in individuals with any of the following conditions: Liver dysfunction or disease, known or suspected pregnancy. Alora should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to its ingredients. Estrogens with or without progesterones increase the risk of stroke or pulmonary embolism. A black box warning was added to Alora’s prescribing information by the FDA in May of 2005.
