Aptivus Capsules Black Box Warning

Generic Name: Tipranivir

Aptivus, also known as Tipranivir, is an oral protease inhibitor indicated for the treatment of HIV and AIDS. During drug interaction studies, administration of Aptivus along with 200 mg of Ritonavir was found to cause both fatal and nonfatal cases of intracranial bleeding. Clinical Hepatitis was also observed, with some cases leading to death.

A black box warning was added to Aptivus’ prescribing information detailing these drug interaction risks in August of 2006.
