NuvaRing Black Box Warning

Generic Name: Etonogestrel/ethinyl estradiol

Nuvaring is a vaginal contraceptive ring applied once a month. Like all progestins and estrogens, nuvaring should not be used for the prevention of cardiovascular disease or dementia. Nuvaring can also increase the risk of stroke, deep vein thrombosis, and cardiovascular issues.

A black box warning was added to Nuvaring’s prescribing information by the FDA in July of 2005.
