Elidel
Elidel is an immunomodulating (immune suppressant) drug that is used as a topical ointment for the treatment of atopic eczema. Elidel is a dangerous drug than can cause cancer, as well as other serious side effects.
Because of these severe side effects, Elidel, manufactured by Novartis, is considered to be a defective drug. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires a “black box” warning on the drug’s label to alert patients to the risk of developing cancer as a result of its use. However, Elidel had been used for several years by patients prior to the “black box” warning now required on the drug’s label. As a result, many patients who were prescribed Elidel may have not been aware of its dangerous side effects, and many have been needlessly injured by this defective drug. Novarits is negligent because it failed to properly inform patients and physicians of these dangerous side effects and, as a result, is liable to victims who have been injured by this dangerous drug. Individuals who have been injured by Elidel may receive compensation for their injuries.
Elidel Side Effects - Cancer
Elidel is an immunosuppressant, which weakens a patient's immune system to such an extent that they become increasingly susceptible to the development of a variety of diseases and cancers.
There are a number of serious side effects that have been associated with the use of Elidel in the treatment of atopic eczema. Cancer is the most serious side effect and can occur due to Elidel reducing the body’s natural defenses against cancer. Once these defenses are weakened, cancer can grow in the body with minimal resistance. Some of the other side effects include: Warm / burning sensation on area of Elidel application; Cold-like symptoms, such as cough, sore throat, congestion; headache; viral skin infection.
Elidel Use
Elidel is the most common form of treatment for atopic eczema, a type of allergic inflammation of the skin that causes itching, reddening, scaling and blistering. Elidel is prescribed for twice-a-day application to control the symptoms of mild-to-moderate eczema.
Patients are advised to spread a thin layer of Elidel ointment on the affected area two times a day until symptoms of atopic eczema subside. It can take several weeks of treatment with Elidel to produce an effect; however, if the symptoms have not cleared after six weeks, treatment should be halted and a medical professional should be consulted.
Elidel should not be used by anyone who is predisposed to the development of skin cancer or lymphoma. Additionally, the topical immunosuppressant should not be used by children under the age of two.
Elidel Lawsuits
