Hydroxycut Recall In Response to Liver Damage Connection

Hydroxycut products are over-the-counter dietary supplements marketed to encourage weight loss. Many of the products include fat burners, energy enhancers, low carb diet aids and diuretics.

In May 2009, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a warning urging consumers to "immediately stop" using Hydroxycut products and return them to their places of purchase. Following the FDA’s warning, Iovate Science Incorporation, the manufacturers of Hydroxycut, issued a recall of fourteen of its products.

The FDA has received 23 reported cases of adverse health conditions believed to be linked with Hydroxycut products, including liver damage, seizures and cardiovascular disorders. One death has been reported as a result of Hydroxycut-related liver damage.

Because of these life-threatening side effects, the recalled Hydroxycut supplements are considered defective products. Manufacturers of defective products may be held liable for failing to properly warn consumers about the dangerous side effects caused by their products. Consumers who have endured damage as a result of Hydroxycut may be entitled to receive compensation.

Hydroxycut Liver Damage Side Effects

Hydroxycut is one of the most popular weight loss supplements on the market. It accounts for approximately 90 percent of the weight loss supplement market and sells approximately one million bottles a year.

Recent reports have found that several consumers have developed liver damage or elevated liver enzymes, a sign of liver disease, while taking the products.

Symptoms of liver disease include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Anemia
  • Bitter taste in the mouth
  • Dark urine
  • Fatigue
  • Furry tongue
  • Light-colored stool
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Vomitting
  • Weight loss
  • Yellow skin and eyes

If you or someone you love is taking Hydroxycut supplements and experience any of the above symptoms, it is important to seek immediate medical attention.

Hydroxycut Liver Damage Lawsuits

Iovate Science Incorporation can be held responsible for the medical conditions caused by their defective Hydroxycut products. Although dietary supplements do not require FDA approval prior to being released to consumers, defective drugs and their manufacturers are still subject to strict liability laws, which do not require negligence to be proven. Many victims of defective drugs join a class action lawsuit to earn their rightful compensation and bring these companies to justice. In most instances, they are awarded compensatory and punitive damages to offset the expenses of medical bills, as well as pain and suffering. To begin your journey toward rightful compensation, contact a highly skilled defective drug lawyer and take your first step toward justice.
